Recently I've come to the conclusion that I have what is known as Body Integrity Identity Disorder. I don't really think it's a disorder, but they have to call it something I suppose. People "afflicted" with BIID have an intense desire to be an amputee and feel as if they're not whole until they're missing one or more limbs. In my case, I'd like to lose my lower right leg.
This. Is. Not. Weird. I think people just have a knee-jerk reaction to the idea without really thinking about it. An amputation can lead to a whole new way to experience life, and in many cases isn't even much of a handicap or detriment.
You're grouping yourself into an incredibly small minority of people. I've actually had to research and tackle this issue years ago for a college debate. This diagnosis is still under heavy debate in some clinical psychology groups. Take what you read with a grain of salt.
As I recall this goes against the Hippocratic oath of 'do no harm.' You'd be hard pressed to find a doctor, or insurance company that would sign off on this procedure. Those are just the logistics for you.
Now as for understanding yourself, and what has led you to this decision. I feel you've got a long road ahead of you. I hope you seek some professional guidance.
Do not feel content with your current conclusion. Really consider the far reaching implications something like this would have on your life, your future career, as well as the people in your life. You're still in your early 20's, you've got a lot of figuring stuff out left to do.
