The short answer: they are being literal when they call themselves cheese-heads. The longer answer: centuries of inbreeding in Wisconsin has produced illiterate, trailer trash who base their whole lives around a meaningless spectacle, distracting them from the fact that lower-middle class wages have, in real terms, been declining for four decades.
