Scientific evidence shows that:

1) The universe (meaning time and space) is about 13 to 15 billion years old.

2) The sun is about 5 billion years old.

3) Earth is about 4.6 billion years old, and its formation took millions upon millions of years. It took millions more for the temperatures, atmosphere, gases, etc. to settle at a point that would allow for life.

5) Life appeared around 4 billion years ago. At first, this was rogue RNA then, later, complex DNA. Finally, the first cells began to evolve.

6) The Cambrian explosion took place roughly 580 million years ago, which is the point at which species diversification and evolution really took off.

7) Primates (the taxonomic order that humans belong to) began to evolve 60 million years ago (although some evidence suggest that they could have appeared in the fossil record even earlier).

8) Hominids (the taxonomic family humans belong to) speciated around 15 million years ago.

9)Homo (taxonomic Genus humans belong to) appeared around 2.5 million years ago.

10) Homo Sapiens (humans) evolved roughly 250,000 years ago.

11) It is difficult to trace the origin of civilization, but the oldest known civilizations were around by at least 5,000 BC, which is 7,000 years ago.

Note that none of these numbers are 100% accurate, but they are reliable ballpark figures.

None of this supports the biblical account of a 6 day creation, or at least a literal interpretation of it. If god were trying to convey hours and days to humans, wouldn't he have thought to do it on a solar time scale?

It's always possible that science has it wrong, but until someone manages to provide evidence proving that, I'm going to stick with the side that has facts and evidence, rather than ancient mythology.

What?! How can you even say we didn't come from Adam and Eve!!! You mean all those Old Testament stories are lies?!?!?!

Imagine when children find out the truth that going to church and what not is a waste of time. The reason for the Old Testament and the lies is because Humans began to become more and more intelligent. As we know, the first societal humans were the cavemen. There was enough intelligence there to be able to create ways of protecting the body and enough shame to want to hide the genitals.

But when Humans became a bit more intelligent and were not so excited any more at the slightest spark (i.e. after the firekeepers era) they began to wonder when this all started and why we were. As the Humans became more intelligent, the word around town was that there was no point to life. There was nothing worth living for. Thence developed the story of Adam and Eve to tell us where we came from, Noah's Ark to wash away the evil thoughts of there being no point to life, and the Ten Commandments to be able to live a peaceful and friendly lifestyle. If this wasn't devoloped, the Human Race would have wiped itself out.

So now that we're MORE intelligent than 100 generations or so ago, more and more people are realizing that God is just a motivation for people to have something to live for. "Behave and live a good life so you get through the pearly gates after you die... but if you kill yourself you go to hell." So the two fantasy sides were developed to give people motivation to live AND live well! Which was a GREAT idea!!! Look at our world! Everyone has some idea that there is something better to live for and work towards throughout our pointless lives! But what makes a pointless life if you aren't working towards getting to god (or God)? What is pointless is trying to fight off or against the people that DO believe there is some sort of afterlife. Let them believe what they want, they're not hurting you. Another thing that makes someone's life pointless is sitting on your ass all day doing nothing! So if you don't have something to look forward to to work towards after dying, then what's the point and how do you deal?

Set your own goals... Try to be better than you were before. Because if you can be better than you were yesterday, today, you're the best! How much of a high is THAT to feel like TODAY... YOU -- ARE -- THE -- BEST -- You have ever been?!! If you know tomorrow is going to be worse than today, then what's the point? Where's the motivation? There isn't any. And if there are enough days like that in a row... someone just sits and sulks or tries to go around it. Like alcoholics. Which is why when alcoholics end up in rehab, they provide them with God... And NOW, they have motivation to do well and live for tomorrow!!! Carpe Diem.

So the improbablity that there was a single being or non-being to create the world (nevermind do it in 6 days) is 100% unlikely just due to the fact of how societal humans came to thrive and based the motivation of their lives on lies.

Science Proves. But everyone believes what ever keeps them pushing for the next day.

I need to say either way whether I believe or not.. I went to church as a catholic and was confirmed. For the class I am in i need to take one standpoint and the scientific reasons just seemed more plausible to me... whether or not I believe in God is not the issue, its that I think it's impossible for one being to create an entire world in 6 days when it took hundreds of years and thousands of people to build the great wall of china alone.

Let me clarify what I was trying to state. Humans evolved and gained enough intelligence to ask the questions: "Where did we come from?" and "Why are we here?" But they had no scientific backing so the Old Testament came to be to give people a reason to live and an understanding as to where we came from... or where life began.

Does that help a little?

GOD's the big tomato of the universe. He/She can do things we could never even think of doing with our little brains. I believe that the possibilities are endless - if GOD wanted to create the world in 6 days, who am I to say that he couldn't? By the way, I am a non-practicing Catholic - not a holy roller. And I have a master's degree - in science!

A big reason it couldn't happen that way is that when the Earth was created, it was burning hot. It had the form of lava. So for God to create the oceans in those first 6 days makes no sense, because any water would have evaporated immediately.

Well, the best reason is that god is outside of time. And therefore, if he was creating the world, it would either be instantaneous, or eternally in development. But saying it took six days would mean he is not a god, because he is subject to human denominations of time. Why would god be counting time using earth's calendar?

Jesus created the world in 6 days. I time traveled and spoke with Jesus, we were chillin by Neptune knocking back a couple of Corona's and he created the world sure enough. He then autographed my bible and gave me a fleshlight, eliminating my dependance on women.
