Ever notice how religious folks try so hard to shut down discussion and free speech? Muslims are notorious for it, but it's a common trend amongst all religious individuals. There seems to be this belief that "the word of god" is good and anything at all that questions or jeopardizes it is evil and somehow corrupting simply to hear.
It makes sense when you think about it, obviously we naturally wish to avoid cognitive dissonance as much as possible. But it really gets old, religious folk. Notice that if you bring up a religious statement/argument with an atheist, they will challenge it, but not tell you to cease speaking (unless you're belligerently asserting nonsensical, factually incorrect statements). You will always receive a return argument, or at least a challenge to explain your position.
Earlier today I commented on a super-religious person's post regarding the morality of celebrating the death of evil people. She was new to the faith and genuinely wondering about God and the problem of evil. I replied with a link to a scholarly article by a very adept apologist dealing with that specific issue. See, I don't care about "winning", I want people to understand what they're saying. In a way, I want you religious folks to be as educated in biblical teaching as possible. We atheists don't want to have to explain your own beliefs to you.
Anyway, the point is, I made that post (not being insulting in any way, unless you consider education an insult), and instead of a reply, my comment was simply removed. Come on guys. I know it seems scary to defend your beliefs some time, but don't answer a challenge by plugging your ears and shouting "La, la, la!" At least defend your beliefs instead of squashing speech.
I pretty much agree with what you're saying here, though I would like to say that this is not exactly true for ALL religious people. I know plenty of very articulate, actively intelligent people who are also religious.
(However, this is admittedly a species of people that I have yet to find in any great numbers across the vastness of the interweb...)
I am sorry to hear your post was censored on another website. This is exactly why on Muttr.com, we do not censor people's opinions.
Not everyone may agree with your opinion but the beauty is here, you don't have to worry about your post being removed. You are free to speak your mind on all topics.

The problem is that they're forced into a box by their own scripture. Being an apologist puts you in a position that forces you to defend the earth being a ridiculous age, dinosaurs co-existing with humans, every animal fitting on a boat, etc.
This isn't a comfortable perspective to assert and anytime an educated question forces them to genuinely confront their own beliefs they have to resort to ad hominem, censoring or hostility.
It's hard to look someone in the eye and with all seriousness plead that you find it perfectly plausible Jonas spent three days in a giant fish. Deep down, they know; they have to.
