No but seriously... Been there... grew up with that. Why do YOU think that is? Black guys that think they're gangstas probably grew up with, or idolize actual gangstas. Why do all white teenie boppers want to be Hannah Montana (or almost a decade ago, Avril Lavigne)? It's all about the image that their parents allowed them to get used to. So, because 50 Cent can speak mushed-mouth and gangsta and make multiple millions of dollars, Some (not most) Black guys (capital B out of respect because I am not racist) feel that they will be able to pull of the same shit that 50 did. Why shouldn't they? Every 7 - 13 year old that idolizes Hannah Montana thinks that if they act or try to be like her, they will be her some day.
"Ok ok ok, so what about the white guys trying to be like black gangsta rappers from the hood." So the community you're from... Was probably mostly white years and years ago. I would say probably 20 - 25 years ago. And ever so slowly, the white generations that have come to pass have slowly moved out or died off from that community and because it was a good area, the non-gangsta-driven black families wanted their family to have ethnic diversity, so they brought their non-gangsta family into it. After some years of the white families dying off and or moving and the black families taking advantage of that, the gangsta-like families began to see the community as some where in which they would fit in because there was now at least 15% black population there. And very quickly, the area became 50-50 and probably moved passed that to 65% black.
But now, because of how the Black man is so great at whippin out the rhythms for rap and hip-hop, that what many of them do in circles. They battle. One of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life was a non-gang legit group of blacks AND whites all in a circle battling it out. There was nothing but racial slurs going back and forth. But it was all in fun, and they knew it. But there's something about the verbage that a Black man can get out that just doesn't cut it with the white guy. The white guys always get so tense and the tendons in their necks start all buggin out! Black guys... laid back just rattling off whatever comes to their tongue... And the winner is?! Meh, who cares, it was fun though.
So because the Black man goes in with such confidence in that they ARE going to be what they want to be, the white man looks up to that. In a community in which blacks are majority of the population, whites need someone to look up to. Their parents, for some reason, are usually scared of the black families which makes them want to keep their kids away from them. When in reality, every kid wants to be a rebel against their parents so they're going to be all in the hood as much as they can when their parents aren't around. So the whites now being outnumbered will usually follow the strongest energy as with any minority.
But sometimes, confidence... turns into cockyness. And that's where gangsta turns into hitman. Individual Confidence is powerful enough for one person to handle. But, Group Confidence is exponentially more powerful because they all know that they have each other's backs. So that's when the roughness starts up. It's nice to have a few white guys in there once in a while to keep the balance.
I'm not really sure how much you were actually missing, or thought you might have been missing, but I probably went WAAAAAAAAAAY over board on that and definitely took the long way to your answer. :o) Short answer: that's just the way society is.
