Casino du Lac Leamy (aka Casino du Hull) in Hull, Quebec decided to get rid of their electronic poker room. Used to be everything was electronic, so there was no waiting. Used to be so precise, you could raise a quarter ($0.25).
Now when you buy chips, the minimum denomination they give you is $5 chips. They say if you want $1 chips, you gotta ask the dealer. I give them $50 of my hard-earned money. And they give me a s*** stack of 10 chips. 10 chips? Are you trying to mock me? I ask for $1 chips and they tell me to ask the dealer.
When I finally sit at a table, I ask the dealer for $1 chips. He tells me, "sorry, I'm not allowed to make change. If I make change, the casino will slap me on the back of my head."
What the f*** is going on?
I think I know what's going on. I think if they force everyone to use $5 as the smallest deno, all your players will think that's the smallest raise. Except on a $1/$2 dollar table, the smallest raise is $2.
So I get to the table and all the other 9 players have stacks two times or more larger than mine. Every has these $5 chips. I was like -- yeah, this is going to last long.
I was right, these people had no appreciation for a dollar like I did. Minimum raise would be to $8. Most pre-flops had a raise of $10 or more.
I guess having a dealer wasn't that bad. Most of them were entertaining and it made things a little more fun than a machine. But a machine never required a tip (besides the rake, which the dealer takes anyway) whenever I won a pot. lol
